Go Figure !

Dear First and Last,

If you have gone to church for a long time, chances are that after awhile, you will feel like you were there first. Others, who came after you, arrived later, or last. Most of us have been in church for most of our lives, from the first, put there by loving parents who raised us in the way of the gospel. It is only natural for the first to think that we are more deserving. After all, we have been here for a long time, from the first.

The Christian faith is built, not upon those of us who are the first , but upon the gracious love of a God who reaches out, in Christ, to the least and the lowest of the last. “The first shall be last.” Matthew 20:16.

In our culture, it is considered rational that a professional football player, who is known for his immoral lifestyle, is paid millions of dollars.

An elementary school teacher who has dozens of young lives in her hands each day , who has spent years preparing herself in school, and literally has charge of the future on our land, is paid $48,000 a year.

Go figure!

Those who read the scriptures and desire to take passages such as Matthew 20:1-16 and the peculiar mathematics of the kingdom of God seriously, have their hands full in our culture.

Still in one peace,
Pastor David J. Jensen
