Dear Brothers and Sisters,

“To what shall I compare this generation…” Matthew 11:16.

Tradition, G.K . Chesterton once said, is the “democracy of the dead,” by which he meant to remind the living that while we may be the church Visible and Militant, we are the church on earth, and in the minority. It is easy to forget that fact as we go about our business being the Church Busy. Indeed, the present-centeredness of the church may be its most consistent heresy.  From an article written by Peter J. Gomes of Harvard University which appeared in the October 22, 1997 edition of the Christian Century.

"We would do well to remember the Christian character and virtues of generations long gone. It is reassuring to know that those saints who went before us were aided by the very God whom they loved and served, and that generation of witnesses surrounds us and is rooting for us now."

May God continue to bless each generation. May we be thankful for the generations who ventured before us, and faithful to hand on the faith to those who walk behind us.

Still in One Peace,

Pastor David  J. Jensen
