Fear Not!

“So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand” (Isaiah 41:10 NIV).

Fear. Worry. Doubt. Any of these words sound familiar? I was recently flipping through radio stations and landed on K-Love 91.1. I realized it had been awhile since I’ve listened to this station and a song was playing that I didn’t recognize. It was “Fear Is A Liar” by Zach Williams (It’s on his album Chain Breaker.)

The chorus says:

Fear he is a liar
He will take your breath
Stop you in your steps
Fear he is a liar
He will rob your rest
Steal your happiness
Cast your fear in the fire
Cause fear he is a liar

WOW!! How many times have I stopped in my steps, too afraid to make a move? How many times have I reminded myself to take a breath? Depending on the day, probably too many times to count. It is during times of fear, worry and doubt that the most important move I can make is to lean on God. A God that does not judge me for the choices I make, or the lessons that are learned, but rather, a loving, forgiving, and merciful God.

Words are powerful and can impact someone or something far beyond our wildest imaginations. So, what if instead of fear, we have excitement? Adventure? Joy? Passion? Regardless of how we look at things, God is going to be with us. Isaiah 41:9 reminds us that we are chosen. God is going to be with us no matter what so why not put our trust in Him?

Dear God, Thank you for the gift of your love and mercy. Lord, when fear, worry and doubt creeps into our lives, please help us to remember to put our trust in You; that it is YOU who will give us the strength we need to get thru anything that life throws our way. May we cast out our fears into the fire and know that we are chosen and loved. In your name we pray. Amen.
