For Love and Freedom

Dear Lovers,

“To love one another is to see the face of God.” Les Miserables

“Love, love changes everything : hands and faces , earth and sky.
Love, love changes everything : how you live and how you die…
Love will turn your world around and that world will last forever…
Yes love, love changes everyone, live or perish in its flame.
Love will never, never let you be the same.” (from the show tune , “Love Changes Everything”)

As we approach Memorial Day each year, I do so with a heart filled with appreciation for the freedom I have. For the lives of those who were killed in war so that I might have this freedom. Let us pray that we exhaust all possibilities to "love our enemy as ourselves,” before we accept the ways of war. I know in my personal life love has done far more to transform me for the better than anything else. The ways of bullies who threaten me to do this or else, may influence me by fear for a moment, but they have not transformed me long-term for the better. The truth is, ”That which is most personal is also most universal.”

Let us pray for a world of love and peace. May we give thanks for our military. However, let us pray for love and peace.

See John Chapter 15 for further reflection.

“Love is the will to extend one’s self for the purpose of nurturing one’s own or another’s spiritual growth.”    ~M. Scott Peck

Still in one peace,
Pastor David J. Jensen
