Fifth Loaf

Dear Brothers and Sisters,
In Luke 9:10-17, Jesus uses two fish and five loaves to feed the multitudes.
The Church of the Multiplication is where some say the miracle of the fish and loaves  took place. On the floor in front of the altar there is a mosaic of four barley loaves and two fish. The artist only put four loaves in the mosaic because the fifth is on the altar. It is through this bread that God continues to feed us, to give us what we need , to bring us healing , and to connect us with one another.
As we prayerfully consider our stewardship response , determining how we will share what God has first given us, may we be informed by the image of the loaves and fish.  Let us trust that there will always be a fifth loaf on the table: the bread of life that feeds us, connects us, draws us together, and heals us.  At the table of Holy Communion, God takes what little we have to share and makes it more than enough. In this meal we eat our fill, we satisfy the hunger in our hearts , and we leave with more to share.
Prayer concerns: Those who mourn the recent bombings in New York City, Generosity, Elections and Political leaders, all who are in need of healing, for peaceful and just ends to all conflict.
Still in One Peace,
Pastor David J. Jensen
