Fear Not

Isaiah 43:1-28

Isaiah 43:1-3, "But now, this is what the Lord says - he who created you,
Jacob, he who formed you, Israel: Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I
have summoned you by name, you are mine. When you pass through the waters,
I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not
sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the
flames will not set you ablaze. For I am the Lord your God, the holy one of
Israel."

Fear... fear, what is there to fear? We are in Advent, Christmas is just
around the corner. As Christians we call this our season, our holiday. We
celebrate the birth of our savior, Emmanuel. Isaiah says "God summoned us
by name, we are his."
And yet we fear. The angels say "Fear not!" And yet
we fear.

Isaiah says "When you pass through the waters, I will be with you." Who is
afraid of waters? Isaiah isn't talking about a soothing rain, Isaiah is
saying that when we feel like we are drowning, when our head is under
water, GOD is with us, with me, with you, we are not alone. Everyone,
everything else may have deserted us, but GOD IS WITH US!

Isaiah continues "And when you pass through the rivers, they will not
sweep over you."
Isaiah isn't talking about a small stream we may
encounter, Isaiah is saying when we feel like we are going to be carried
away by our fears, GOD is with us, GOD is holding us.

If we are worried that refugees may be terrorists, we should remember that
Jesus as an infant was a refugee in Egypt. We can not let our fears sweep
us away from those we should love, we can not let our fears drown us. WE
HAVE BEEN REDEEMED! Claim your birthright from your fears.

Isaiah says that in life we get tested by fire, but we will not be burned
and we will not be set ablaze. As "Fun" says in their song "Carry On", (If
you're lost and alone or you're sinking like a stone, carry on. May your
past be the sound of your feet upon the ground, carry on.)

Jesus said... Jesus says, "follow me!" To follow Jesus may require that we move. We may
have to move our position or we may have to move our mind. If you are in a state of fear, know that you are not alone. Your GOD who created you is with you. He is calling you by name and you are his. He claims you! He has redeemed you! AMEN!
