Evil Transformed

Dear Eternal Doubters,

“He doesn’t know how to worry without getting upset.” Edith Bunker in reference to her husband Archie.

What worries you or causes you to become upset? Is it health, finances, children, parents, work, or something else?

As Jesus and the two thieves died on the cross, there was cause for worry and distress.

The first thief focused on himself screaming the words, “Save Me..!!” (Luke 23:39) In tough times do you gravitate toward making sure you watch out for number one, and take care of yourself first?

The second thief said, ” ..remember me..” (Luke 23:41-42)  His cry was one more of repentance. The second thief was aware of his wrong doing and sought forgiveness.

The third response came from the Christ to the thieves, “Today you will be with me in paradise.” (Luke 23:43You are forgiven and in my eternal kingdom.

Each moment of our lives is trapped in those verses and responses. On occasion, we are selfish. Sometimes we are repentant and acknowledge our sinful broken ways. While in each moment we are the beloved children of God, and recipient of Jesus' eternal truth and grace.

“”God did not abolish the fact of evil: He transformed it. He did to stop the crucifixion: He rose from the dead.” Dorothy Sayers.

Prayers: For the van for the safehouse in Nicaragua—we are over $9,000 that has been given to date,  for the ministry of Peter and Brendan Mayer—may God continue to bless them, for the sick and those who mourn.

*We continue our midweek Lenten journey tonight at  “Great Beginnings Café, 6pm. There will be a simple supper followed by shared study on the “Mentors of the Bible."

Still in One Peace,

Pastor David J. Jensen
