Dust

Genesis 2:7(Amplified Bible)
7Then the Lord God formed man from the [a]dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath or spirit of life, and man became a living being.(A)

Footnotes:
Genesis 2:7 The same essential chemical elements are found in man and animal life that are in the soil. This scientific fact was not known to man until recent times, but God was displaying it here.

I’ve started taking pictures of the particularly stunning sunrises God paints in the morning sky.  Randy and I are so blessed we get to see the evidence of God’s artistry as we begin each new day.  This is mighty fine dust God made us from!

Next week we will celebrate Earth Day.  As a teen of the 70’s I remember the very first Earth Day and the passion with which my sister and I were turning down thermostats and turning off lights in our home.  We picked up trash wherever we saw it lying on the ground.

But it wasn’t until I was searching for a verse to inspire a devotional that it clicked…I am formed from this Earth.  We are one.  God took the dust from the ground and breathed life into my nostrils. I am alive and new each and every day!

Now as I look upon the glorious colors of the morning sky I think about God breathing life into both of us, the Earth and me.  I think about how I can take better care of us both.

Genesis 2:7(The Message)
Adam and Eve
5-7 At the time God made Earth and Heaven, before any grasses or shrubs had sprouted from the ground—God hadn't yet sent rain on Earth, nor was there anyone around to work the ground (the whole Earth was watered by underground springs)—God formed Man out of dirt from the ground and blew into his nostrils the breath of life. The Man came alive—a living soul!
