Dropping Leaves

I recently moved my office to the living room - you know that room that no one ever goes in but yet it's called the "living" room!

My dad's desk provides me with a great work space and reminds me of all the hours he sat with his important papers working on construction projects, preparing for home builders meetings and Habitat for Humanity.  Our kids used to sit in his big blue chair in front of this same desk.  The leather top still looks new after decades.  One of the drawer handles is missing, mostly likely having fallen off during it's move to my house, since daddy was a perfectionist and I can't imagine him having something out of place.  However, as he slowed down and his body did not cooperate due to Parkinson's, and he was able to let a lot of things go.

As I look out my living room window, I'm enjoying the view especially now that it's fall.  It's my favorite time of the year.  I can watch the kids headed for the bus stop early in the morning and then the bus heading down the street off to school. Seems just like yesterday when my almost 23-year old son trudged off in the wee hours taking that same route.

I especially love watching the trees turning and colors are ablaze standing out in full beauty.  But the leaves are starting to drop and they are on the ground dried and void of their color.  Nature mimics life and as we go through our cycles - times when we feel vibrant and other times when listlessness wraps it's blanket around us.  I'm in a cycle where I'm feeling like my leaves are falling and I just don't have the energy I did.  I miss my dad, my kids who are grown and out of the house, my dog who we put down just about this time last year, and the energy and good health I used to have.

So God and I have lots of conversations throughout the day and he speaks to me as I look out my "living" room window.  The winter will come but spring will be around the corner with it's burst of color.  Despite the beauty of autumn starting to disappear and the dark winter days that are ahead there's always something I see from my desk that shows me that life and energy are always there just showing itself in a different way.  Some days I have to look for it harder than others but I always find something that God has provided to me to witness.

Let God renew your mind and your spirit to go out and be that energizing, living force to the world bringing the Good News of Jesus Christ.
