Dressed to a "T"

Ephesians 6: 13-17 (New International Version)
13Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. 14Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, 15and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. 16In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

I don’t usually take much time getting myself dressed in the morning. I throw on some jeans, a shirt, socks and shoes and I’m ready for the day. This lack of fashion sense may come from being so tall that I never really had options as a kid. I kind of got used to dressing simply. Now that I am older and wiser (code for lazier)…it is just plain easier!

I have some very special healers in my life that help me take care of this body God blessed me with. My body gets a little touchy with every bit of life I throw at it. One day, one of my healers reminded me to take the time to dress myself each morning with the full armor of God.

Don’t you just love the visual image that brings to mind? If I think about putting on God’s belt of truth, I must take care with my words. When I lift the breastplate of righteousness and see my reflection in its polished finish, I feel unworthy…but on second glance I see Christ beside me promising to let me share in his righteousness. Could my aching feet really be fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace? Ahh, and the shield of faith, I can’t ever forget to leave home without it! Let’s face it flaming arrows come at me from all directions; I would be so, so lost without that lovely shield! The helmet of salvation is another one I hardly feel worthy to place on my head, but God’s words of mercy and grace are placed in my soul and written on my heart. The strength and power of the sword of the spirit rests firmly in my hands. Now I am ready to face the day!

Tomorrow when you are choosing your outfit for the day, don’t forget these essential garments, and if you see me…ask me if I remembered to put mine on! Sometimes I need gentle reminders from my healers and my friends…Don’t forget Julie! Be sure to put on the full armor of God!

Abba, your words provide me with all I need. Thank-you for fitting us with such fine armor each and every day! Amen

Julie Weldon
