Disciples of Jesus

The next day, John saw Jesus coming toward him and said

“Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!”

                                                               John 1:29

As we prepare to celebrate the birth of the Messiah, we should stop and think of what Christmas is really about.  On Saturday, my son and Ihelped at the Open Door Christmas party and we both were reminded what Christmas was really about.  Seeing the faces of all the children who were so excited to enjoy the spirit of Christmas and to get their picture taken with Santa Claus was worth the time we spent.  Sometimes it is so easy to get pulled into our own busy schedules and lives.  We get so wrapped up in our lives that we don’t open our hearts to hear God’s word or to accept God’s help. Knowing what the right thing to do usually isn’t a problem.  Doing it is.

God’s plan is to fill us with his life. We need to be loving, caring and forgiving disciples.  It doesn’t mean we should sit back and wait for things to happen to us, for us or around us.  We are responsible for our own actions.  We should ask,  seek and knock on God’s door for help.  When God answers with His plan, we can trust that He will give us what we need to live our lives as good disciples.

Dear God, I ask for you to help me to be a disciple of Jesus.  Give me the strength to open my heart and listen for your guidance in how I can live my life as your servant.  I pray that my heart will be open to whatever answers you have for me, so I can live a Christian life.  In your son’s name, Jesus, I pray. Amen.
