Dining Out

Dear Diners,

John Calvin asserted that, in the Lord’s Supper, Christ is present. How is Jesus present? Where is he present? Calvin was reluctant to define the “real presence“ of Jesus in the Eucharist. Instead, he said, “I would rather experience it than understand it.”

So too, when Jesus says,” I am the bread of life come down from heaven,” we should be reluctant to explain the precise meaning of that metaphoric, symbolic statement. Rather we should testify how, in our experience of the risen Lord, Jesus is for us the bread of life. (John 6:35-51)

May the temptation of the intellect never block the path of the experience of Jesus as you dine upon the “bread of life.” Let us come often to the table and soak in the spiritual experience of Jesus in the holy meal.

Still in One Peace,

Pastor David J. Jensen
