Different Versions

It's always interesting to hear my 8 year old granddaughter explain something to her 6 year old brothers. Recently the word "version" came up in our conversation and as usual, Paloma gave a detailed "version" of her definition of "version" when one of the boys asked her what that word meant. It seems these things often come up when I'm driving. How I wish I could have some of this sage advice/explanation recorded! Synonyms of version: explanation, account, interpretation, rendition. I often look at different versions of a bible passage...For instance:

Psalm 118:24-25 This is the day the Lord has made; We will rejoice and be glad in it. Save now, I pray, O Lord; O Lord, I pray, send now prosperity. (NKJV-New King James Version)

Psalm 118:24-25 The Lord has done it this very day; let us rejoice today and be glad. Lord, save us! Lord, grant us success! (NIV- New International Version)

Psalm 118:21-25  Thank you for responding to me; you’ve truly become my salvation! The stone the masons discarded as flawed is now the capstone! This is God’s work. We rub our eyes—we can hardly believe it! This is the very day God acted— let’s celebrate and be festive! Salvation now, God. Salvation now! Oh yes, God—a free and full life! (MSG-The Message)

And then there is this...

Look to this day,
For it is Life,
The very essence of Life.
In its brief course lie all
The truths and realities of existence,
The joy of growth,
The splendor of action,
The glory of power.

For yesterday is but a dream,
And tomorrow is only a vision.
But each day well lived,
Makes every day a dream of happiness
And every tomorrow a vision of hope.

Look well, therefore, this day.
                                     ~ Sanskrit Proverb

Gracious God, As we step out into our days, may we have open hearts and minds, seeing eyes and honest ears as we create our versions of the life you've brought us into. Amen
