Time to Pray

Dear Deserted,

“In the morning, while it was still very dark, Jesus got up and went out to a deserted place, and there he prayed. And Simon and his companions hunted for him. When they found him, they said to him, ‘Everyone is searching for you.’ He answered, ’Let us go on to the neighboring towns, so that I may proclaim the message there also; for that is what I came to do.” (Mark 1:35-38)

People have been looking for Jesus. The disciples come and tell Jesus that he had not communicated where he was going to be, and that he needs to come back to where the crowds are. Jesus hears the disciples request and essentially says, “I am not going to do that, I am going to leave here.”

As much as we might like to do so, we cannot pin Jesus down. He does not serve at our command. He answers prayers according to God’s agenda. A song from my wife Amy’s favorite movie the “Sound of Music” captures some fitting images for the mercurial ministry of Jesus. In “How Do You Solve a Problem Like Maria?” the nun asks “How do you catch a cloud and pin it down?...How do hold a moonbeam in your hand?”

Prayers: For all who continue to mourn Stu McPherson, for the Luce family as they mourn the death of Vikki’s Mother Toini Reese, flood victims, those effected by the start of school.

Still in One Peace,

Pastor David J. Jensen
