Death Defying

Did you ever wish you could have the death-defying courage or bravery or just plain craziness of an Evel Knievel? Is sky diving on your "bucket list"? Jumping the Grand Canyon on a motor cycle? Do you "yearn" to scuba dive with 12-foot sharks, race with wild abandon in the Indy 500, or in my case, fearlessly sing in front of a crowd? Yes, death-defying all, most of all the latter if you've heard me sing!

Well, consider that you may be already engaged deeply in the most death-defying act of all. Maybe as an avowed Christian, you are taking your life in your hands. Sometimes, in today's culture, it seems riskier to admit you're a Christian than almost anything else in this country. TV sometimes portrays Christians as weak, unintelligent, backwards, blind to reality, fun-hating, crutch-needing people who think they're better than everyone else. And in many countries, Christians are truly in danger of losing their lives just by attempting to worship their God and Savior.

Well, thank God for Jesus, who gives me the gift of the cross, a life filled with joy, love, forgiveness, and mercy, and the gift of eternal salvation, the most death-defying possibility of them all! May the top of my bucket list be to know and love my God more deeply than anything else, that I may be a vessel for sharing that love with my family, that I may be an example of the courage and bravery it takes to be a public Christian.

Lord, grant me the courage to risk striving for all those gifts, no matter what others may think, no matter the costs.

Blessings and courage!
