As our kids prepare to start a new school year, let's explore the subject of confidence. Maybe we all need a refresher course on that subject!

· Pray for bold faith, because faith and confidence in God go hand-in-hand.

· Pray for discernment to say "no" to things that would hinder the duties and ultimate work that God has in store.

· Praise God for this year and the opportunities that we have to grow in confidence as we have made our requests known to Him.

Prayers for our students to remain diligent and focused in their studies.

Bible Study:
Obstacles occur which cause us to doubt our confidence. Many things lead to building our confidence, our preparation, previous experience, and our reliance on God to provide the necessary gifts to us so that we might succeed.

Proverbs 11:30 The seeds of good deeds become a tree of life; a wise person wins friends.

Psalm 71

2 Corinthians 4:6  For God, who said, “Let light shine out of darkness," made his light shine in our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of God’s glory displayed in the face of Christ.

Ways to be confident:

  • Be thankful for the gifts of God that you possess. Sometimes we feel like we don’t have enough of something which leads to not being confidence. Work and effort will build on what we already possess.
  • Be positive. Avoid self-pity, believe in you.
  • Stick to your principles. What would Jesus do?
  • Be helpful to others.

How to build confidence in our kids – advice to share:

  • Be present – just do it! Don’t think about it.
  • Lighten up – Relax; in with the good air, out with the bad. Focus on just your breathing for a couple of minutes. Don’t try to be perfect.
  • Really, really want it!
  • We build confidence by doing things that scare us and then we have the courage to do it, but not always before. Just like practice makes perfect, practice builds confidence.
  • Realize that life goes on if we fail. Many times we’re not as afraid the second time if we’ve failed once and lived through it. Try again. If you have to take a class more than once, that is okay. If you need to change your major, that is also okay.
  • Focus on ending the “can’t chant” Be the train that says “I think I can.”

God will give you the equipment for the battle you’re facing, because God’s plan will not lead you where his Grace cannot keep you. (Hebrews 10:34-36)
