Come and See

Dear Worshipper,

“It’s who you are and the way you live that counts before God. Your worship must engage your spirit in the pursuit of truth.” (John 4:23, The Message)

At Gods Grace Community Church (GGCC) we have prayers printed out and an order for where things such as music, scripture, and prayer will happen. And yet in our better moment we know that Christian worship is not simply about having a plan.  True worship is that which was described to the women at the well ---it “engages the spirit and pursues truth.” Worship is not what we do, but what God does. True worship is a product of the presence of Jesus. Whenever the spirit of Jesus reaches in, speaks to us, comes next to us, instructs us, then that is true worship “engaging and true.”

One way God keeps worship pure is by introducing us to other ways of thinking and faith formation.  Jesus stretched the boundaries hard by reaching out to build a relationship with a Samaritan women. The disciples were “shocked  that he would talk with such a women. “ (John 4:27)  For worship to be true and pure it must engage those like us and those who are different from us. For the word of God has come to relate to all.

I invite you to invite another “ come and see this man.. “  (John 4:28-30) who knows all about you this Sunday in worship, Jesus the Christ.  Mary McManigle and I will be preaching together as she shares of what it was like to serve on a Habitat for Humanity build in Kenya last summer.

My prayer is that worship will “engage you with truth” and  reveal to you the purpose and mission Jesus has designed for your life. “The purpose of life is to discover your gift. The meaning of life is giving your gift away.” David Viscott

Still in One Peace,

Pastor David J. Jensen
