‘For I was hungry, and you gave me something to eat; I was thirsty, and you gave me something to drink; I was a stranger, and you invited me in…Matthew 25:35

I was blessed to travel to Nicaragua last week with 5 others from GGCC. We were guided by Daisy and Brad representing Love Light + Melody, and chauffeured around Managua and the surrounding area by Bismark, as well as Marlon and Domingo in the navy blue van that our small church helped purchase.

We covered a lot of ground in our short time…viewing La Chureca (the original trash dump where Brad’s journey in NICA began) from a nearby hillside, celebrating Bismark’s church’s first anniversary alongside his wife, children and participants, visiting Villa Guadalupe the resettlement community of families who lived at La Chureca, working alongside people in the Nueva Vida Trash Dump and afterward sharing fellowship time, touring Club Esperanza (Club Hope) and listening to the hopes and dreams of Shayla and Nelson who run the program, walking the grounds of Jorge’s mountainside church and food bank, visiting Daniel, Jesenia, their new baby and the 7 kids and 2 house mothers in their beautiful safe house, watching awe-inspiring sunsets that were truly a benediction to our emotion-filled days. The list goes on…

We shared smiles, songs, stories and hugs. We prayed over many and affirmed their good works. I sensed a level of dedication and commitment I’ve not seen before. I came away with visions, smells and feelings that have now become part of my life’s tapestry.

Gracious God, thank you for opening my heart to this opportunity to visit Nicaragua. Poor out your blessings on all whom we met there. May they feel your fatherly protection and love in all they do as their life’s journeys continue. May they be confidant in knowing our prayers continue for them, even as we are back home in our comfortable lives. May they know that they live in our hearts now…Amen
