Matthew 5:8 Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.

Today I will be spending the afternoon with my brother Robbie. He is having cataract surgery and is a little anxious about it. I am going to hold his hand as well as love and support my mom while she waits and worries. Robbie is a 7 or 8 year old boy in the body of a 50 year old man. He has Down’s Syndrome. Even though Robbie has been legally blind for a good portion of his life he sees things more clearly than the rest of us.
He has worked at Wendy’s for 30 years and in that time has been a keen observer of human behavior. He greets his customers with joy and delight and works hard to clean up after them. He gets upset when people say mean things and is delighted when people are nice. He loves with his whole heart, and his hugs positively melt any worries you might have. He is pure of heart. I am blessed to call him brother. Through his pure love he has taught me to enter God’s presence as a child.

Who in your life has taught you how to see and love God? This Sunday is All Saints Sunday. Spend some quiet time this week thinking about the saints in your life. I bet they all have this wonderful beatitude in common…Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.

Abba… I thank-you for Robbie’s pure heart, and his unfailing wisdom. He has been one of my best teachers of how to love you. I thank you for all of the saints you have set before me in my journey through life. And thank-you dear Abba for watching over Robbie and keeping him safe. Amen
