Church and State

Finally got our ballots in the mail. Yay. Maybe the madness that is the political campaigns is almost over.

Derogatory comments. Made up statistics. Irrelevant anecdote. Disclaimer.

Who do we listen to?

I was reminded of a book I got in 2008, “Jesus for President” by Shane Claiborne and Chris Haw. I’ve pulled it out and am rereading it. It’s an attempt to explore politics through the lens of the Bible.

The authors suggest that we listen to Jesus and read the Bible and our story as God’s people and how God hopes we might live. That we turn to following the crucified Christ and the spiritual values of humility, gentleness, and sacrificial love.

We’ll be looking for you tomorrow at 9 or 10:30 am as we worship together and remember that we are “the body of people who make the God of Jesus visible in the world” (definition of church from “Jesus for President”). We’ll explore Matt 22:15-22 and “How Would the Iconoclast Vote?” You'll also want to meet Chris Henshaw, Executive Director of Raising the Walls and our 10 Year Celebration Community Building Event on November 2nd; he'll be with us between services.

Grace and peace,
Vikki
