Chips and Cracks

Driving to and from the mountains, especially in the winter, has resulted in several rock chips in my windshield over the past couple of years. Whenever a new one occurred, I've been right on top of getting it "filled in" to avoid a crack. None of them were bigger than a quarter, nor in my direct line of vision, so according to the insurance guidelines, I didn't qualify for a new windshield.

A couple of weeks ago, while sitting at a stoplight, in a somewhat "daydreamy" state of mind, I noticed a crack had formed in the top left corner of my windshield and was quickly growing longer. In the span of 10 seconds or so it had progressed to almost the length of my entire windshield. I was mesmerized by its path of travel, not exactly straight, but seemingly determined to get to the other end quickly. Soon I was knocked back into reality by the car behind me blowing its horn! Get going lady!

My windshield scenario could be compared to how many of us deal with life...Things happen, we find a quick or temporary fix and move on. After so many things/chips, maybe something bigger happens that spurs us on to action. Maybe for you it's relationship issues, or career happenings. For me it was health stuff. Was that crack a sign from Him to stop putting off what needs to be taken care of and take action? What I know for sure is that I have lots of appointments scheduled and I'm getting a new windshield in a few days!

Gracious God, thank you for all the ways you know how to knock us off our feet, into action...the subtle ways and the more obvious ones. Thank you for being patient with us slow learners and procrastinators. Thank you for loving us unconditionally, despite our flaws and failings.
