Child Within

Dear  Brothers and  Sisters,

I like to watch the TV show “The Office.” If you look carefully in the background of those sitcoms, you will see some of the old Successories inspirational leadership art on the walls.  Not a lot of people seem to use it anymore. I did find some of the slogans to be creative. One of the inspirational quotes I really liked was “A hundred years from now it will not matter what my bank account was, the sort of house I lived in , or the kind of car I drove….. But the world may be different because I was important to a child. “

Jesus told us over and over again that children are a priority in the kingdom of God. “Let the little children come unto me , and do not stop them ; for it is to such as these that the kingdom of heaven belongs” (Matthew 19:14). Do you pray for a childlike faith? Are you blessed to be able to hang out with children?

This week I am in the Twin Cities in Minnesota. I am blessed to be spending time with nine of the high school youth from our missional community and youth from three or four other congregations as well.  The way they approach the world with a desire to explore and experience what God has given them is refreshing.  They are teaching me much about things like trusting as a child versus turning to the cynicism of an adult view life.

Our text for this week is Romans 12:1-12. A core verse in that passage is verse 2, “ …do not be conformed to this world , but be transformed by the renewing of your minds, so that you may discern what is the will of God—what is good and acceptable.”

May you be blessed with the faith of a child. Allow the love of Jesus to recreate and transform anew the child of God within you.

Still in One Peace,

Pastor David Jensen
