Canvas of Your Heart

Dear Advent People,
Annie Dillard speaks eloquently of God as an artist who, in the nativity, enflames the world with mysterious Incarnation.
“What can any artist set on fire but his (her, feel free to transpose and make the artist feminine) world?... What can he light but the short string of his gut, and when that’s burnt out, any muck ready to hand? His flame is like seraph’s, lighting the kingdom of God for the people to see; his life goes up in works ; his feet are waxen and salt. He is holy and he is firm, spanning all the long gap with the length of his love, in flawed imitation of Christ on the cross stretched both ways unbroken and thorned.” (Annie Dillard, “Holy the Firm”, Harper and Row, Publishers, 1977,p. 72.)
May the mystery of the incarnation (God becoming flesh) dwell anew in your heart this Advent and Christmas season. For the divine artist is ready to be at work on the canvas of your heart.
See Luke 1 for further reflection.
Prayers: For Syrian refugees, for all who still mourn Pearl Harbor and the loss of life, all who mourn, all who are in need of healing.
Still in One Peace,
Pastor David J. Jensen
