Burnout or Balance?

Dear Time Managers,

Jethro, Moses' father-in-law, served as one of his mentors.  In Exodus 18:17, Jethro is concerned about how Moses is spending his time. Jethro says, ”This is no way to go about it. You will burn out.”  Moses was going fast and furious, trying to do all the work on his own.

The reality is, burnout can occur when we have too much or too little rest.  Burnout arrives when we’ve been busy doing many things, as well as when we have nothing to do.

Do you have a mentor like Moses had in Jethro?  Mentors can help us see what we are unable to see in our life. Pray for a great mentor to enter your life if you lack one. Offer thanks to God if you have a mentor who provides you with guidance in Jesus' name.

Blessed are those who can ask of a mentor, ”How do you think I am spending my time? How might I find more purpose and meaning in Christ's name?”

Ponder Exodus 18:13-27. Consider who are your mentors? How might you be a better manager of the time God has offered you?

Prayers: For schools as they prepare to reopen.  For the Walters family as they continue the journey of mourning. For global leadership.

Still in One Peace,

Pastor David J. Jensen
