Galatians 5:1-26

Galatians 5:1 “It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened by a yoke of slavery.”

Burdened by a yoke of slavery, sounds kind of crazy. Why would I burden myself, that doesn’t make sense. I want to live free and loose and have fun and not be pinned down by responsibilities.

I don’t want others to take up my time unless I want to do something with them. That may sound selfish, but that is the way I find myself thinking at times. I am too busy to spend my precious time with others.

What I don’t realize is that when I think only about myself, I am burdening myself with the yoke of selfishness… and that yoke is heavy… and that yoke cuts me off from others… and it cuts me off from GOD.

Galatians 5:7 “You were running a good race. Who cut in on you and kept you from obeying the truth? Sometimes I find myself enjoying life to its fullest, helping others, working with people who are hurting around me, talking with someone who is down… and then… something makes me feel like I am too busy, like others are taking more from me than I am getting, like I am getting the short end of the stick :) I like what Paul says here. I was running a good race and someone cut in on me… just like an angry crazy driver on I-25. Do I let the angry driver ruin my day? Or do I stay in the race and know that my burden is light and pray for the heavy burden the angry driver has taken on themselves.

It only takes a little knowledge, a little faith that “I am a wonderful loving child of GOD” to keep us in the race, to keep us facing toward GOD, towards the light. Galatians 5:9-10 “A little yeast works through the whole patch of dough. I am confident in the Lord that you will take no other view. The one who is throwing you into confusion will pay the penalty, whoever he may be.”

We will hit some bumps in the road today. We will come across some people who are hurting, living in darkness, and want us to share their darkness. BUT! It is for freedom that Christ has set us free, "Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.” AMEN!

Precious Father, Loving GOD, Holy Spirit~we pray for discernment from what we want and what we think you want. Help us to let go of our fears and worries so that our hearts and minds are opened to love in everything we do, see, or even think of. AMEN!
