Bumper Sticker Wisdom

Proverbs: 10:1-32

Proverbs 10:31 & 32 “The mouth of the righteous brings forth wisdom, but a perverse tongue will be cut out. The lips of the righteous know what is fitting, but the mouth of the wicked only what is perverse.”

I saw this pint size container in the curb as I was walking my dog a week or two ago. It had been thrown there by someone and rode over by at least one car, but the label stuck out at me.

(contains no milk)

Isn’t that how it is sometimes? It made me think of another label I had thought about.

(contains no Jesus)

Proverbs make for a good read whether you have a lot of time or only a minute or two.  They are like bumper stickers. When I was looking for a job, they said you needed to have an elevator speech you could give someone in a minute or less. Nowadays, people want things you can put on a bumper sticker.

I had a good weekend.  My son came down from college for his first visit since going away four weeks ago.  I tried to make things short so he could spend time with his friends, but he wanted to sit on the couch and be with me and mom.

As you go through your day today try to take a bit more time in things you believe define you as a follower of Jesus… hug a little longer, or better yet, add a hug to that quick kiss as you fly out the door and realize Jesus loves you as you are. And if you are ready to take some time for Jesus, he would like to sit with you or lie with you or even walk with you and hear how your day was and even listen to you.  But don’t worry or fear, because Jesus loves you just as you are!

Precious Father, Loving God, Holy Spirit we pray that we take time for ourselves and for others... and Lord we pray that we take time for you!  AMEN!
