Broken Together

I love my wife but sometimes, she drives me up the wall. Some of the things she does are like from Pluto or Mars. But don’t get me wrong, she is an amazing woman with many great traits. I heard from people that when they get married, there will be no problems in life. It will be perfect and it will run smooth as silk. Well, I hate to burst your bubble but that isn’t going to happen. I don’t think 2 imperfect people will get together and make a perfect being. It just doesn’t work that way. God didn’t want it to work that way. Actually, I don’t think all the imperfect people who follow Christ are supposed to get together and make a perfect body of believers. I think we are supposed to be broken together.

Christ was the only perfect being. Look at all the disciples that were chosen. In my opinion, I don’t think I would have chosen them to lead people to Christ. They weren’t influential or highly educated. Many of them did not act with class or proper manners. They were fisherman and just fished for a living. How can they lead people to God? They were all broken but yet, they were broken together. None of them were perfect but yet, they supported each other and helped each other and it was wonderful. The first church must have been incredible back then. When one person was hurting, many people gathered together to help the person get past the pain. Many sold the goods they had to help people with nothing. Wiser men taught the less wise. Strong men helped the weak and the experience helped the un-experienced. It is really hard to find that these days.

I see people stepping on each other to get ahead. There is hardly any communication any more. I see a family having dinner which is supposed to be a time to share problems and prayers using their iPhone to text other people, play games, and etc. I feel fear for the younger generation because they don’t know how to have conversation over food. They have horrible attention spans and have horrible listening skills. Nobody listens to anybody any more. They just want to be entertained. They feel privileged and everything should be done for them handing everything to them on a silver platter. I don’t think it should be this way.

What would be really great is if people have to text on their iPhone, text words of encouragement and prayer to each other. Get to the heart of the matter of what is troubling people in life and try to help in any way. We have our own faults and we are far from perfect. We are broken but if we reach out to others and support each other, we can be broken together. I think that is what heaven is going to be like. All of us love each other as one big family because we are broken together.

In Christ,
Stan

P.S. Please watch the music video by Casting Crowns named “Broken Together.” I love it and I hope you will as well.
