Broken Plans ?

Broken Plans can be Blessings

Are you a planner, a "wing it" kind of person or some combination of the two? I personally like to live life somewhere in between the two, it definitely keeps life interesting.

Have you ever spent some time on a plan and no matter how well thought out and ready to implement it you were, it just fell apart? I was recently in "planning" mode and thought I had it all figured out ... and then it came, a curve ball. Not to say that this is a bad thing, it just gives me another way to look at a few things. I believe God has another plan for me and while I wish I could say that I knew what that plan was, I am certain that if I take a moment or two to refocus and reflect I will discover a new direction.

Regardless of having to change directions, I do know that two things are for sure: One, I am Blessed. As I have been thinking about my many Blessings I was drawn to Matthew 5:1-12 which is often referred to as The Beatitudes. As I continued reading the passage, verses 14-16 say "You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on a stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven." Second, God is just a prayer away. From the words of Philippians 4:6-7 I am reminded "Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus."

These verses reminded me that even when things may get me down, I am still a shining light and that I should not hide myself away. I am also reminded that I don't have to create and carry out a plan all by myself. I can take it to God who will guide me to where I need to be.

So to plan or not to plan? I think that no matter where we find ourselves in that part of our journey, it is important to keep God near, after all, He is our biggest supporter.

Dear Lord, thank you for interrupted and broken plans. Please help us to keep focused on what is important and to remember that we are your shining light. Please watch over us and guide us to where we are to be. In your name, Amen.
