Bringing Jesus Along

Mom and I just got back from a trip to Seattle, WA. We went to visit old friends and cross some names off my mom’s bucket list. We hadn’t seen these old friends in a very long time. For me it was close to 30 years. For Mom it was 26 years. This mother daughter team that we visited, taught me how to tie die and make granola. I still pictured them in their “hippie” lifestyle from years gone by. Many years of growing in different directions meant this could be an interesting gathering. Mom and I promised each other that we would steer clear of religion and politics to insure a nice visit. I prayed that God would keep watch over our words and actions. All went quite well and we only had one brief moment where we could have gone down a bad path with the mention of how religion started too many wars. I agreed too many wars had been started in the “name” of religion, but couldn’t help myself and added that if we truly related to one another the way Jesus related to the people he encountered, the world would be a wonderful place indeed.

Our visit started off stiff, but ended with hugs and exchanges of addresses and emails and promises to keep in touch. I even got an invitation to join their Artist Trading Card group! Mom said I won them over. I said (and I believe this with all my heart…) “God, won them over. I just provided the vehicle for him to win their love.”

It is a fun reminder to bring Jesus into every relationship we encounter.

Abba, may we seek to renew old friendships with your love as our guide. May we seek to bring you along wherever we travel. May we speak with your words, act with your love, and go with your guidance. Amen
