One day it’s hot and 88. The next it’s in the 60’s and foggy. Isn’t it funny how fall just happened?

Isn’t that just like life? We’re in one season and then, boom, things change. Without even noticing, it’s different.

Sometimes the change occurs but it takes a while to recognize it. Or, maybe I’m just slow. And then there are the outside events that have an influence on our hearts. Another mass shooting. Refugee crisis. Gang shooting. Car crash takes the lives of young people.

I’d rather be happy than sad. But that’s not a full life. I like having the four seasons even though the change to shorter days and colder temps isn’t what I prefer. Change wakes me up. The news – bad and good – makes me think. And pray. I find my way back to God.

You mustn’t be frightened
if a sadness
rises in front of you,
larger than any you have ever seen;
if an anxiety,
like light and cloud-shadows,
moves over your hands and over
everything you do.
You must realize that something is
happening to you,
that life has not forgotten you,
that it holds you in its hand
and will not let you fall.
~ Ranier Maria Rilke

We’ll be looking for you tomorrow at 9 or 10:30 a.m. as we gather to worship, to pray, to eat, to thank, to remember that Jesus’ mercy changes me, we and the world.

Grace and peace,
