Blowing Winds

Dear Mystics,

What happens when we pray?

In John 3:1-17, Nicodemus comes to Jesus hoping for some answers to prayer. He desperately wants to know what he is in control of? How can he access God to gain what he so desperately desires? Jesus' response to him is, ”The wind blows where it chooses, and you hear the sound of it, but you do not know where it comes from or where it goes. So it is with everyone who is born of the Spirit.” (John 3:8)

Catholic Scholar and modern mystic, the late Henri Nouwen wrote: “Prayer is a radical conversion of all our mental processes, because in prayer we move away from ourselves – our worries, preoccupations , and self-gratifications—and direct all that we recognize as ours to God in the simple trust that through God’s love all will be made new.”

Jesus is among us - walking streets and sitting in our midst. We have as much access to Jesus as Nicodemus did in John 3. Are you prepared to ask for the winds of the Holy Spirit to blow within you, and for God's will to be done?

Still in one peace,
Pastor David J. Jensen
