“The Lord bless you and keep you;

The Lord make His face shine upon you and be gracious to you;

The Lord turn His face toward you and give You peace."

                                                                            Numbers 6:24-26

I continue each day to marvel at the blessings I have in my life. Yesterday as I was trimming bushes at my daughters house, my granddaughter was playing beside me and pretending that we were in the woods. After many questions about what I was doing and what I was going to be doing for the rest of the day and weekend, I asked her if she wanted to go to church with us on Sunday. Her response was, “Well, yes Mimi, don’t you know I always go with you.” I told her that this Sunday we were going to give “Blessings” to all of the children, students and teachers who were going to be starting the school year in the next coming days. She asked me what a blessing was. I told her it was a prayer that we say to keep someone safe and to wish them well as they begin a new journey in their lives. She then asked me if she could say a prayer. I told her of course she could pray. Then she told me she wanted to say her prayer like Pastor Dave does. I then asked her, what do you mean? And her response was, “I want to be like Pastor Dave.” “I want to stand up at the front and have the microphone handed to me and then she would say her prayer and everyone would pray with her.” In the past, my granddaughter has had some performance anxiety at dance recitals, school programs, soccer games and other things she has been involved in. So I was amazed that in her mind saying a prayer in front of her church family did not seem too frightening for her. Now I don’t know if she would have actually been able to say her prayer in front of everyone, but to know that she even considered the idea of doing it makes me feel so blessed that she feels safe with our church family. After church, she told me that she did not need to worry about anything now when she went to school the next day for her first day of kindergarten.

Dear God, thank you for the blessings you have given me. I ask you to open my mind and soul to accept all of the blessings you give me and to let me open my heart and mind to be like an innocent five year old. Give me the faith to know that you will be by my side in every step of my life. In your son’s name, Jesus, I pray. Amen.
