Blessings…what are “Blessings”? How do we know we have been blessed? Are blessings always Happy, Joyful events that beg to be celebrated? Or do they come in the form of raindrops?

Sometimes blessings come in the form of bad news. A few months ago Randy shared with the Lent dinner attendees that his position was being eliminated…he was out of a job and there was to be no severance pay. This was bad news. Our daughter had gotten married in December and we had leftover debt from the event. We prayed, “God we know your hand is upon us and we will be blessed!”

Randy has networked with many wonderful people over these last few months and has worked harder than most to find a job. He boarded every bus, boat, & helicopter God sent our way. He did his best to help others looking for work by introducing them to his contacts. And we prayed, “Lord we know you are with us blessing us through this valley. Keep Satan’s hand away from our lives, so that we might not give in to worry and fear but trust only in your providence.”

Today I can share the good news that Randy has accepted a new position with a company that not only values his God given gifts, but was looking for exactly those qualities. If Randy had not lost his job this amazing opportunity would have been lost. Praise God from whom all blessings flow!

Please listen to Laura Story’s song: Blessings

Abba, how richly You have Blessed us through all the valley moments in our lives. We lift up those who are still out of work and struggling financially. Abba, keep Satan’s hand of fear away from their hearts and souls. Fill them instead with Your mighty peace, Your confidence in their God given gifts, Your wisdom and guidance as they seek Your will for their lives. Abba Bless them as you have Blessed us! Amen

PS. Today is my brother Robbie’s 48th birthday! 48 years ago he arrived with the tear drops of my parents for the uncertain future of a child with Down’s Syndrome. We all give thanks for the unbelievable Blessing he has been in our lives!
