"The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make his face shine on you and be gracious to you; the Lord turn his face toward you and give you peace." Numbers 6: 24-26. I find this benediction to be very comforting. It just has a breath of peace to it. As of late, God has been working on me and my perception of what it means to be blessed. I still wrestle with understanding why some people have so little, and some people have a lot. Why some people have so few blessings of resources, and others have a large reservoir of them. Why I have been blessed extravegently with certain resources compared to so much of the world. I've come to the conclusion that there may be no true understanding of these things.

But this brings me to the perception of what it means to be truly blessed. There are blessings of finances and resources. And then there are the blessings of faith, joy and assurance. I think about some of the people I am most grateful to know, those who live in a shack or a hut with so few resources. It may look like they don't have anything. But they are blessed. They get what it means to have faith like a child. They get what it means to trust God above anything else. They get what it means to rely on community and family. They are blessed.

I dream about memories of children running through African dust and dirst, smiling and giggling. I close my eyes and visualize children running through the Nicaraguan trash with open arms, jumping, ready to be picked up and played with. I believe they have an understanding, one that we cannot fully grasp, of the Kingdom that God has in mind.

So as God has blessed me with resources that I do not deserve, nor understand, I pray about what it means to be blessed. Everything that we own, it's all from Him. So, what I "have" isn't even mine. What He's given me is to be used wisely, and for His Kingdom. And I'm not just talking about money. I'm also talking about time, dedication, a voice and understanding. Without what He's given me I have nothing. Without Him I am nothing. And how painfully easy it all is to forget. Blessings are all relative. We all have more than we deserve. And I think He looks at us and says "How will you use what I have given you?"

Lord, God, through You and by You we have been blessed. You have blessed us so greatly. You've given us each a reason to be here on this earth, to utilize what You have blessed us with. Please help us to discern what Your desire is for the resources You have given us. To You be the glory. Amen.
