Beyond Boundaries

Dear Outcasts and Sinners,

In Matthew 15:21-28 a Canaanite women comes up to Jesus asking for help for her daughter. Jesus makes it clear to her that he has come for the lost sheep of Israel and doesn’t plan to include them in his current mission strategy.

The woman responds, “Yes, Lord but even the dogs eat the crumbs that fall from the masters table.”

Then Jesus answered her, “Women great is your faith! Let it be done for you as you wish.”

And her daughter was healed instantly.

(Matthew 15:26-28)

Jesus will not be limited by our definitions of insiders and outsiders. We build walls, boundaries; he pushes out beyond to a fresh definition of God’s family and bids us to do the same.

Prayer…Lord give us the grace to praise you and to love you, not only because you have loved us, but also because you have loved the whole world, have reached out over boundaries to embrace everyone within the great expanse of your generous love. Amen

Still in one peace,

Pastor David J. Jensen
