Being Blessed by Others

vMathew 5:16 - …let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven. (NIV)

Last week we moved our youngest daughter into the dorms at Baylor University. We were in central Texas with temperatures already 100° by 9:00 a.m. Our daughter’s room was on the 5th floor of her dorm. We had a full load of belongings in our car and waited in line about ten minutes for our turn to unload. Now the good news of the story….we were greeted by a mass of lime green shirts that had the above Bible verse on the back of each shirt. They were volunteers that were there to help us carry everything up. We each grabbed a load and by the time we reached her room, all of her stuff was there at the same time as us. It was a very organized process, with a constant stream of people going up the stairs as a constant stream of people were going down the stairs. The result? 600 girls moved into their dorm in five or less hours and everyone had a very easy unloading process. These volunteers were surely a blessing to our day. They were students, staff, and even President Judge Starr and his wife Alice were among the faithful volunteers. It was easy to recognize their good deeds for that day.

Dear God, we give thanks for the good deeds of others. Help us to pay it forward and to recognize the opportunity to provide a good deed to others, so that their burden might be lightened as well. In your name we pray, AMEN!
