Begin with Me

“Let there be peace on Earth. And, let it begin with me.” Let there be peace on Earth, the peace that was meant to be…With God as our Father, brothers all are we. Let me walk with my brother in perfect harmony. Let peace begin with me, let this be the moment now…With every step I take, let this be my solemn vow—to take each moment, and live each moment in peace eternally. Let there be peace on Earth, and let it begin with me.

Not only is this one of my favorite Christmas songs, but it is also so relevant for our nation and our world. How are you instigating peace?

Jesus spoke a great deal about peace:

Matthew 5:9 “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God.

Matthew 11:28-30 “Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”

John 14:27 “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.”

John 16:33 “I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.”

Peace has many connotations—peace in our hearts, peace in our relationships, peace in our homes, peace in our work, and yes, peace on Earth. How are you taking each moment and living in peace, eternally? It may be through your daily devotions, your interactions with others, meditation, exercise, or giving of your time and talents. This holiday season, let the peace truly begin with you. Don’t wait for others to take the lead. “Let there be peace on Earth. And, let it begin with me.”
