Beach Breakfast

Presence
Dear Lord as I come to you today
Fill my heart and my whole being
with the wonder of Your presence

Freedom
Lord, may I never take the gift
of freedom for granted. You gave
me the great blessing of freedom of
spirit. Fill my spirit with Your peace and Your joy.

Consciousness
How do I find myself today? Where am I with God? With others? Do I have something to be grateful for? Then I give thanks. Is there something I am sorry for? Then I ask forgiveness.

The Word of God     John 21:1,9-14
After these things Jesus showed himself again to the disciples by the Sea of Tiberias; and he showed himself in this way. When they had gone ashore, they saw a charcoal fire there, with fish on it, and bread. Jesus said to them, ‘Bring some of the fish that you have just caught.’ So Simon Peter went aboard and hauled the net ashore, full of large fish, a hundred and fifty-three of them; and though there were so many, the net was not torn. Jesus said to them, ‘Come and have breakfast.’ Now none of the disciples dared to ask him, ‘Who are you?’ because they knew it was the Lord. Jesus came and took the bread and gave it to them, and did the same with the fish. This was now the third time that Jesus appeared to the disciples after he was raised from the dead.

Some thoughts on today's scripture

  • The breakfast on the beach is a surprise for the disciples. Maybe they expected some rebuke. They get fed! And whatever way Jesus fed them, they recognised him. The invitation to them is to all of us; every time of prayer is an invitation to breakfast!
Conversation
Remembering that I am still in God's presence, I imagine Jesus himself standing or sitting beside me, and say whatever is on my mind, whatever is in my heart, speaking as one friend to another.

Conclusion
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit,
As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end.
