Be Still

Dear Fearful,

Tertullian (De Testimonio Animate, c,ii)  speaks of some who believe in a non active and passionless God, a God who with no feeling , in particular, no feeling for us. “Who needs a god like that?” asks Tertullian. “The gods of the pagans care only for themselves.” God in Christ creates and continues to care for us.

In Mark 4:35-41 there is growing concern in the boat that Jesus does not care. “Teacher do you not care that we are perishing?”  Jesus then awakes and tells the storm to be “still” and asks, ” why were they afraid, did they have no faith?”

What storm is hovering in the world or around your heart that you fear Jesus cannot handle?  May our prayer be for peace and greater faith. For the storm will be told by the Lord of hosts “TO BE STILL.”

Prayers: For those with the storms of mental illness, for leadership and followership throughout the world.

Still in One Peace,

Pastor David J. Jensen
