Are you prepared?

Dear Anticipatory,

This week we near the end of our mentor sermon series. On the 17th we look at Barnabus and Paul. This week we look at Mary and Elizabeth.

In preparation and anticipation of the action Jesus will call us into through Mary and Elizabeth, let us pray.

Gracious God, we give thanks for Elizabeth and for Mary , mother of our Lord. We praise you that in your wisdom you chose that lowly one to bear your Son, our Savoir Jesus Christ, into the world. You chose to transform history, to put down the proud, to lift up those who were oppressed, and to redeem Israel through this young woman.

We thank you for Mary, for her willingness to be used for your purposes in the salvation of the world.

Teach us, in our fumbling discipleship, to take Mary as our mentor, to profit from her example, to take heart from her courageous following, and to become your instruments in the redemption of humanity and salvation of the world.

This we pray in the name of Jesus the Christ, Emmanuel, God with us. Amen

May God give birth through the power of the Holy Spirit to do something new in you this day!

Prayers: For all effected by the floods in Bangladesh and the Gulf Coast region of the USA. For those potentially in the path of Hurricane Irma. For Debbi Meador, Nancy Nickoley, Bruce Woods and all who struggle with health concerns. For divine guidance on the issue of immigration.  And for the anticipation of the action God is about to give birth to within us.

For further reflection on Mary and Elizabeth, please see Luke Chapters 1,2 and 3.

Still in One Peace,

Pastor David J. Jensen
