Are You Listening?

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

In John 2:13-22, Jesus becomes the righteous, indignant prophet who is consumed by the holiness of God and concern for God's temple. Jesus is angry and he is turning over tables. Christ tells them “Stop making my Father’s house a marketplace! Get out of here!”  Walter Brueggeman writes about the task of the prophet, “the prophetic imagination.” Which can also be seen as the model for the kind of pastoral empowerment:

“The task of the prophetic imagination and

ministry is to bring to public expression

                    those hopes and yearnings that

have been denied so long and suppressed

so deeply that we no longer know they are there ..Hope

is the refusal to accept the reading of reality

                    which is the majority opinion.”

Walter Bruegemann “The Prophetic Imagination,” Page 67

When is God calling you to be countercultural and follow Christ on the road less traveled?

Prayers: For wisdom and courage, that God might continue to bless the United States, for the sick and for those who mourn. That we will stand up for the rights of the poor and the refugee.

Still in One Peace,

Pastor David J. Jensen
