And so it begins

Advent begins tomorrow. Why Advent? We already know what happens on Christmas – we celebrate God becoming one of us by being born to a poor virgin, Mary. So why do we need four Sunday before Christmas to get ready? It’s not just that we need that much time to get all our shopping done, cookies baked, gifts wrapped. Because even the Grinch knows that Christmas comes whether that stuff is done or not.

Advent means “coming” – it’s the spiritual practice of waiting or longing. For a long time people actively waited for the Messiah to come. And now that the Messiah has come, we still seem to be waiting. And so, we practice waiting so we might be ready to see God among us – right now.

Check out this book excerpt on the “Seven Spiritual Gifts of Waiting.”

We’ll be looking for you tomorrow at 10:00 as Advent begins, we light the first candle in our Advent wreath and begin the practice of waiting. You especially want to be there as some exciting news regarding the mission and vision of God’s Grace will be shared.

Grace be with you,
