A New Resurrection Life

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

In John 11:25 Jesus says, “I am the resurrection and the life.” Jesus is responding to the death of his friend Lazarus. Martha, a sister of the deceased, had asked Jesus to come . When Jesus arrived they greeted him with ” If you (Jesus) had been here our brother would not have died.”  I love the use of the word “if” by the mourning sisters. How often we each take our “if’ statements to the Lord in prayer.

The old radical preacher F.D. Maurice said the challenge of this little exchange between Martha and Jesus depressed him because, after two thousand years, most Christians have not yet gotten beyond the Pharisee’s to the point of Martha’s confession. We still think like the Pharisees that resurrection is some time in the future, in the sweet by and by. That day, in the middle of grief, Jesus got Martha to the stunning recognition that resurrection is now, present, in the flesh, face to face in front of her.

Jesus said to them , “Unbind him and let him go!”

Where in your life right now in the flesh, face to face with Jesus would you like to hear that “You have new life! You are set free!” Take some time to ask for it and prayerfully ponder it. No “if’s” just straight up prayer to God asking for new resurrection life! The promise that raised Lazarus 2000 years ago is your today.

God Bless,

Pastor David J Jensen
