A Larger Trust

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

“Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life….” Matthew 6:25. Do you worry? Are you worried that you worry too much? The word “worry” comes from the German word “worgen”, which means to strangle. That is a very strong term.

Do you feel as if your mind is in a strangle hold? May the Holy Spirit surround you with love and mercy if you feel such pressure within yourself. Stop whatever you are doing and pause to take some deep breathes of fresh life giving air. Do not try to fix yourself, instead place yourself before the loving presence of God.

We want to fix everything. We are not in the management of the universe, but we are instructed to live our lives in the framework of a larger trust. Just look for a moment at some of the points Jesus raised in Matthew 6

“You already have life and a body and that is more important than what you are going to wear.” Matthew 6:25

“Look at the birds! They don’t worry about what to eat…God feeds them.” Matthew 6:26

“Why worry about clothes? Look at the lilies. Solomon in all his glory was not clothed as beautifully as they .” Matthew 6:28-29

“Will all your worries add a single moment to your life?” Matthew 6:27

God in all God’s glory and generosity wants us to celebrate all the good gifts and provisions God has made for us. Jesus desires to point us to a larger trust. We are more valuable than flowers which bloom today and are gone tomorrow. We are of greater value than the birds that sing and fly.

For this I give thanks this Thanksgiving season. May “worgen” stay at bay and may God remind me of all my blessings this day.

See you on Sunday.

Still in one peace,

David J. Jensen
