A Few Things I Learned in June

My Bible verse for June was “As a deer longs for flowing streams, so my soul longs for you, O God.” Psalm 42:1 I found my self longing for the presence of God.

GGCC has the cutest kids. I learned that hanging out with a group of kids 3 – 10 years old to talk/sing/create/play how God is always with us is the best time possible. Mid-June was the first of two VBS mornings this summer. August 1st is the second; let me know if you want to help or have some kiddos who want to participate.

I went to a Fly Fishing Class (at Cabelas, of course). I learned about knot tying, insect life stages, water temperature. line and much more. I decided I’m not smart enough to be a fly fisher, but I think I would like to go out and give it a try.

The Colorado mountains are exquisitely beautiful in the summer. Wildflowers, deer, blue skies, snow-capped peaks, streams…almost more than one can take in. I spent a precious week with family in Snowmass. I am grateful for the presence of God I found there in the beauty of creation and the beauty of relationships.

As we celebrate our nation’s birth this weekend, it seems so easy to forget that we haven’t got it all figured out in 239 years. Racism, poverty, fear and many issues still divide us. I learned I can’t sit back and think everything’s “okay”. I’m not sure I learned what I can do other than to just love people, but I do know that I can pray. A hopeful way to engage the darkness is with a weekly resource called the World in Prayer. It doesn’t skip the ugly stuff but it does lift up hope that we might participate in God’s redemptive power.

We’ll be looking for you tomorrow at 9:00 and 10:30 a.m. as we gather to thank God for God’s presence in our lives and in our world and explore our nation’s spiritual roots.

Grace and peace,
