9/11 Links and Resources

You've probably heard that Sunday is the 10th anniversary of 9/11.  There's a lot going on that day: from our service at 8:30 am and the Extreme Community Makeover Serve the World event following, to concerts in local communities and more.

The media has focused on it, one of the cable channels has been showing a nightly program about the event for a week or two.   And, now a new threat has been reported.  It's hard to know what to watch, where to look or how to think about it.

Here are links to some good resources you might want to check out.

  • Prayers, practices, art and reflections are just a few of the items posted by Spirituality and Practice.  The authors of this site are located in New York City, so the topic has been close to their hearts through the years.  Click here.
  • For parents and families here are some tips and ideas from Parent Further, a Search Institute resource for families to help talk about this anniversary, what topics might come up in talking about this with children and more links and resources.  Click here.

If you were in worship at 9 am last Sunday you heard Pastor Dave read from the book, September 12th We Knew Everything Would Be All Right.  This book was written and illustrated by a group of first graders in Kennett, MO on the first anniversary of 9/11.  They knew everything would be all right on September 12 because the sun came up, their parents told them they loved them, 2 + 2 still = 4 and from all the flags flying.  Click here to see this book or order your own copy.   I think it would be a great idea to write your own family version of hope for whenever something "bad" happens; the next day will be a new day and how will you know that everything will be okay?  The sun will come up and Jesus still loves you.

What resources or links have you found that have filled you with hope and peace?

See you Sunday.  God bless you!
