12th Man

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

The Seattle Seahawks, the team Denver plays this Sunday, are famous for the “12th man.” I prefer “12th person.” The 12th represents the crowd, in essence, the team's connection to community (crowd). If there is a team that would rather play on the road than at home, I have not heard of them. Few if any teams ever win more games on the road than they do at home. The reason for success at home is that the team feels a connection and the support of community.

Who are your"12th People”? It is my prayer that your 12th Persons” include the body of Christ, the church.

Who are you a “12th Person” to? Ponder this in prayer.

When you go through tough stuff, you will find greater success if you are blessed by community. Jesus' ministry style versus tough obstacles and opponents was to surround himself with 12 people, including his disciples and other community, to serve as his 12th person. For further biblical reflection, see Mark 1:21-28.

If you can make it tonight, the youth group invites you to a night with Seth Olsen, who played for the University of Iowa and with Peyton Manning in Indianapolis. The gathering takes place at the home of Mike and Chris Rabe, 11080 Canyonbrook Way, Highlands Ranch 80130. The event goes from 7-9pm.

Still in one peace,
Pastor David J. Jensen
